Secure the Party's future - Cadres to NDC

The cadres front of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), yesterday 17th April 2021 held a forum at Tema community 5 Rotary Clubhouse  aiming at how to find remedies to secure NDC's future.

The people's forum which has the theme "Securing NDC's Future" was chaired by Former High Commissioner to Malaysia CDE Dan Abodakpi and moderated by the former member of parliament for Ablekuma South CDE Fritz Baffoe The speakers for the programme were a founding member of the NDC, CDE Goosie Tanoh, former MP for Lawra-Nandom and Defence Minister CDE Ben Kumbuor and the parliamentary candidate for Tema Central Constituency CDE Ebi Bright.

They spoke to common issues confronting the NDC as challenges that had made the party lost Power in 2016 and 2020. CDE Goosie Tanoh said in his delivery that, the Npp in the past years has found a way to penetrate into the strongholds of the NDC. He gave Northern part of Ghana as a classical example and asked why the Npp has a trajectory going in their favour and the NDC a trajectory that is making the party lose. He also lamented about mobilising the grassroots and giving the grassroots the necessary resources to work for the party.

The parliamentary candidate for Tema Central Constituency CDE Ebi Bright also stressed on the formidable structures that the Npp has put in place to keep their pace all these years which has given them the false impression that they can keep the NDC in opposition for thirty years.   She further emphasized on the conflict of interest of comrades of the NDC which has made many choose loyalty over good moral values. She said, this over loyalty phenomena has caused gross indiscipline  in many of the younger generation who are even trying to rock shoulders with the Founding Fathers of the NDC camaraderie. When some of these issues are tackled the NDC will grab the seat of government come 2024, she said.

The former Defence Minister, CDE Ben Kumbuor added that, the manner at which the branches of the NDC are being handled is one of the major flaws in the NDC. How branch executives are picked by some constituency executives, which turns out that those branch executives are nothing but only voting instruments for someone to be a constituency executive, has caused the party to be marking time all these while.  He said, the rate at which people uses commodities and currencies to lure delegates for votes is very alarming and is killing the core aim of the NDC which is probity and accountability. He added that, it's about time the NDC takes critical look into the monetary aspects of how internal elections are being conducted to help the party curtail the  menace of no money no votes which has eaten deep into the minds of the younger generation in the NDC camaraderie.

In the closing remarks of the Chairman of the Programme, Former High Commissioner to Malaysia CDE Dan Abodakpi, he charged the grassroots to remain more resolute and united. He said the party doesn't belong to anyone or any group of people, but rather it belongs to the grassroots who has the power to make an unmake. He pleaded for cohesiveness in the party which is one basic tool for  the NDC to win elections come 2024.
