Good morning ladies and gentlemen, friends from the media.
You are warmly welcome to Kwabeng for this press conference. We called you here this morning to rebut a statement made by Madam Kate Gyamfua, NPP national women's organizer against our hardworking MP who also doubled as the Roads and Highways Minister to the effect that the honorable minster is only constructing roads in his constituency thereby neglecting other parts of the country.
The statement which was made on Ahenkan Radio in the Eastern Region has for the past 48hrs being making headlines in both the print and the electronic media.
The Concerned Youth of Atiwa West takes exception to that and see this as an insult to the good people of Atiwa and our honorable MP.
One can under no circumstance phantom the reason she made that scandalous and shallow statement.
We would have taken it with a pinch of salt if it had come from a political opponent of the MP or any other person other than Madam Kate Gyamfua but with her status as the ruling party's women's organizer and a big beneficiary of the roads under construction in the constituency, we won't allow this to just go by.
We see the statement made by her was out of shallow thinking and hatred in her heart towards our MP due to his dislike for her mining activities in the constituency. She made the statement without thoroughly thinking through and we still haven't find any reason to her action with no provocation from our MP.
Ladies and gentlemen, before we delve into the issue raised, let me use this opportunity to congratulate Hon. Amoako Atta on his re-appointment to the Ministry of Roads and Highways. This is due to his hard work and diligence in service delivery which prompted His Excellency the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo to give him another shot at the ministry to continue his good works for mother Ghana. Hon. Amoako Atta will go into our history books as one of the best longest serving and hardworking road ministers the country has ever had since independence.
This is evidently clear to all well-meaning Ghanaians to see. It was no surprise to most Ghanaians when his Excellency the president in his own wisdom reappointed him to the same ministry.
He met a challenging task at the ministry at a time when most of our roads were in a deplorable state with a GHc 20 billion debt in the road sector but he was never deterred. With determination and commitment, he tackled the problem head on and was able to deliver five state of the art interchanges simultaneously at the same time.
Thus: Tamale interchange, Pokuase interchange, Suame interchange in Kumasi and the Obetsebi interchange in Accra.
If she cares to know, none of these areas mentioned above can be found in the Eastern region then to talk of Atiwa West.
The statement by Madam Kate seeks to suggest that Hon. Amoako Atta is a self-centered man who only thinks of his home people at the expense of other Ghanaians. We wish to state that, that is not the true reflection of the personality of Amoako Atta but he is a man of the people who has all Ghanaians at heart and therefore doing all he can to make our roads motor able.
Isn't her statement scandalous and hollow? How can a women's organizer of a ruling party make such hollow statement against his own member with no supporting facts? Can Madam Kate Gyamfua tell us the minister who spearheaded the asphalt lay from Bodua to Akwatia, her home constituency?
The number of roads under construction during this period is unprecedented and it's under the charge of our hardworking member of parliament and we are proud of that.
We would like Madam Kate Gyamfua to get her Ghana map and tell us if the following under listed roads are being constructed in Atiwa West:
100 km Kumasi inner roads
14 km Adenta - Dodowa dual carriage way
34.9 km Seikwa - Berekum
209 km Oti Damango-Nakpanduri road
57 km Wa - Walewale road
Tema -Akosombo road
These are just but a few projects to be mentioned. Atiwa West happened to be a beneficiary of the larger roads infrastructure being undertaken by the government and it's not by the fault of ours to partake in the sharing of the national cake.
By the way, is Atiwa West not part of Ghana and do the indigenes not tax payers? So what wrong have we done to benefit from road construction in this country?
We see her statement to be a hate speech against the good people of Atiwa West and our MP.
It is important to note that she is one of the biggest beneficiaries of the road projects ongoing in the constituency since her mining heavy duty cars uses the roads daily.
We would like to remind Madam Kate that Hon. Amoako Atta unlike her is not ungrateful and always remembers where he is coming from and rewards the people who have honored him.
Madam Kate Gyamfua has over the past ten years been mining in the Atiwa enclave and as at today holds the biggest mining concession in the constituency, and with this can she happily point to any project a community within the constituency has benefitted from her mining company?
She has seconded most of her mining concessions to Akwatia indigenes thereby neglecting licensed miners from Atiwa West with most of the Akwatia miners being members of the NDC. This is a known fact within the constituency.
The only benefit that Atiwa West Constituency has received from her mining services were the shooting of a 15 year old JHS 3 pupil by the company's security officer and the mysterious death of a young man at your site.
It will interest you to know that, in 2020 when the deadly corona virus pumped it's ugly head out, in its quest to help curb the spread of the disease in the district, the district health administration in conjunction with the district health committee requested for assistance from her mining company, don't be surprised that after a year no response has been heard from them.
As a national women's organizer, how many women in her constituency has she empowered. Her only achievement in that area is when she masterminded the dislodgement of her fellow woman in parliament, Hon. Ama Sey thereby giving the seat way to the NDC on a silver Plata this was due to her parochial and selfish interest. She should first of all apologize to the Akwatia people before making that unsubstantiated statement against our hardworking MP.
We see her statement as one to court public disaffection towards our MP but, "dea Onyame ahyira no no, otanfo ntumi nsei no". No amount of vilification and propaganda against him will succeed and we urge the public to disregard the statement by Madam Kate Gyamfua and her subsequent public denial with the utmost contempt it deserves.
We on this note calling on her to retract and apologize within 24 hours or be ready to park out of our land which she is earnestly destroying.
We wish to state that her purported statement of denial is of no value to us since she is on tape to have said that and it's a public record.
Long live Hon. Amoako Atta
Long live Atiwa West
Thank you.
