A heavy down pour on Saturday, March 6, 2021 has caused a huge havoc to a poultry farm at Berekum.
The Golden City Poultry Farm, which is located at Amomaso, of the Berekum West District in the Bono Region, has suffered a great lose, after the Saturday's heavy down pour.
A visit to the site by Masemtvgh revealed that, the roofing sheets of nine of his structures, which house over four thousand five hundred birds, have been razed down by the torrential rainfall.
According to one of the workers on the farm, they had already counted five hundred dead birds from the first three affected structures, and were yet to move in to the remaining six structures, to assess the number of birds, that have been lost as a result of the heavy down pour that ripped off the roof of these structures.
Another worker at the farm, Kwasi Foster, disclosed a number of coops at the farm, that have been destroyed beyond repairs. ''Six of our coops at the farm have been destroyed beyond repairs'', he stated.
Speaking to Masemtvgh, Mr Kwaku Kankam, the owner of Golden City Poultry Farm, expressed shocked at the level of destruction that has been caused to his wooden structures and birds.
''I have twelve workers at the farm but looking at the level of destruction the rain has caused, i will have to let them stay home for awhile''. To Mr Kwaku Kankam, this is a difficult decision but he has no option to let them stay home.
Mr Kwaku Kankam further disclosed how he has invested into his farm, the Golden City Poultry Farm. ''I have invested huge sums of money; in fact, i have invested all my money in this farm in the hope of getting returns and not counting loses at this difficult time''. According to him, he had already made arrangement to supply some of these birds to his customers in Accra the following week.
The owner of Golden City Poultry Farm, who seemed to have lost hope, taking into consideration the huge amount required to re-build these affected structures, including the coops and the huge number of birds he has lost, appealed to the government, through the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, to come to his aid with any available support so that he can re-build his farm to employ his workers again.
Madam Adwoa Afriyie, a worker at the farm, was worried about how she will survive should the workers be sent home for days without pay and appealed to the assembly to support the farm in any possible way to keep her work.
The Golden City Poultry Farm, is the biggest poultry farm at Amomaso community with over twenty thousand birds.
